When I was young, I used to have a tape that would read out the Dumbo book. It was like my bedtime storyteller, with my mom by my side prompting me to turn the page when necessary (too young to know when to turn). My ability to remember any bit of my childhood is rather horrible, pretty much pathetic to be honest. Yet for some reason I’ll never forget the narrator’s voice and that picture when Dumbo LEAPT from the crashing airplane, extended his wings, and managed to survive.
That was probably my first ever exposure to the idea of taking chances. Despite having awkwardly big ears, being ostracised and being shy, Dumbo took a chance and suceeded. I have to too.
